The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to proclaim 2021 to 2030 the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

Today the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to proclaim 2021 to 2030 the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary in the Federal Environment Ministry welcomed the news: "This decision to proclaim a Decade on Ecosystem Restoration could not come at a better time. After a century of massive destruction of nature and the environment, a decade of restoration is vital. The status of marine and terrestrial ecosystems, particularly forests, is very worrying. The international community must take action. A dedicated Decade offers a forum to consolidate our efforts. It will lend fresh impetus to important and successful initiatives like the Bonn Challenge on the restoration of forest landscapes, enabling us to achieve ambitious targets by 2030. The BMU is ready to support the UN Decade on Ecoystem Restoration."
