The Environmental Information Act regulates public access to information on the environment. It obliges all bodies of public administration to make data available to anyone having a justified interest. The Environmental Information Act transposes the European Directive into German law and entered into force on 14 February 2005. Please note:
This working translation of the Umweltinformationsgesetz (UIG) is provided by the Language Service of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. Only the German text of this Act is authentic.
