Schwarzelühr-Sutter fordert in New York anspruchsvolle Ausgestaltung der Post 2015-Agenda

On 23 and 24 March 2015 at the UN intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda in New York, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Environment Ministry, Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter, advocated ambitious goals and targets for the transformation to more sustainable economic practices that respect the ecological boundaries of the planet. In her statement she stressed that "the Post-2015 Summit in New York in September will mark a historic moment. For the first time, the international community will agree on a broad, universally applicable set of precise goals and targets for sustainable development which aim to secure prosperity for everyone, including future generations. In this context the agenda must generate political momentum in order to achieve the following six goals:

  1. End poverty and hunger and fight inequality;
  2. Empower people, achieve gender equality and ensure a good and healthy life for everyone;
  3. Promote shared prosperity and achieve sustainable lifestyles for all;
  4. Respect planetary boundaries: fight climate change, protect and sustainably use natural resources;
  5. Protect human rights - ensure peace, good governance and access to justice;
  6. Establish a new global partnership.

The 17 proposed Sustainable Development Goals are well-suited to drive this transformation forward. In talks with the co-facilitators of the negotiations, Ambassadors Kamau (Kenya) and Donoghue (Ireland), and the chief negotiators from France, Switzerland, Denmark, Japan, Colombia and Peru, Parliamentary State Secretary Schwarzelühr-Sutter reiterated Germany's call to maintain a high level of ambition for the development agenda and to include a stringent mechanism for reviewing the goals and targets.
