The International Climate Initiative (ICI) has already provided more than 30 million euro

The Federal Environment Ministry has increased its assistance for climate policy in the Philippines by another 3 million euros to over 30 million euro. This was announced yesterday in Manila (Philippines) by representatives of the German Federal Environment Ministry, the National Climate Change Commission, the Department of the Environment and the national planning authority.

With the adoption of climate legislation and the establishment of a National Climate Change Commission chaired by the President, the Philippines have established major cornerstones for an effective national climate policy. Renewable energies play a key role in this context. Based on the Philippines' Renewable Energy Act of 2008, the latest project aims to improve framework conditions for renewable energy. The goal is to ensure a low-carbon energy supply while at the same time enhancing and improve the country's energy security. Moreover, decision-makers at local level will be empowered to make regional development plans climate-friendly and to independently implement climate change adaptation measures.

With this new project a total of more than 30 million euros has been made available under the International Climate Initiative (ICI) for cooperation with the Philippines. The Federal Environment Ministry's International Climate Initiative was established 2008 and supports climate projects in developing, newly industrialising and transition countries.
