Germany and Italy want to support the United Nations in drawing up and implementing a global strategy for sustainable financing with up to 2.5 million US dollars each. State Secretary at the German Environment Ministry Jochen Flasbarth and Italian Minister of the Environment Gian Luca Galletti signed a corresponding declaration of intent in New York this weekend. In doing so, Italy and Germany are continuing to pursue the key issues of the Italian G7 and the German G20 Presidencies.

State Secretary Flasbarth commented: "The direction of finance flows and funding will play a key role in implementing the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It will have to become an integral element of all UN policies. During our G20 Presidency we have shown that investment in climate action and sustainable development generates growth, creates jobs and leads to greater social equity."

During a bilateral meeting both sides supported the idea of closer cooperation, also with the future G20 Presidency. The reform of the United Nations and the Climate Change Conference COP 23 in Bonn in November were also discussed.
