Today at the Federal Chancellery, Federal Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen and Under Secretary General at the Brazilian Ministry for External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on combating climate change.

The Memorandum contains agreements on increased cooperation in the areas of climate protection, energy, research and technology. Germany and Brazil also agreed to establish a working group under the lead responsibility of the Federal Environment Ministry and the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations.

At the signing ceremony Federal Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen said: " Brazil and Germany have a pioneering role in the field of climate protection. Both governments are agreed in wishing for even closer cooperation in future. Ambitious climate protection measures offer enormous economic benefits. An early change of course towards low carbon economic processes pays off financially too."
