Federal Minister Hendricks welcomes the city of Bonn's approval of a grant agreement with the Federal Government to strengthen Bonn as a UN location. On Hendricks' initiative, a total of 17 million euros has been allocated from the federal budget 2016 to measures to promote the UN in Bonn. The funds are coming from the Federal Government's Programme "Future Investments".

Federal Minister Hendricks commented: "These measures will make Bonn even more attractive as a UN City. In future, the Federal Government will continue to work hard to bring new international organisations to the Federal City. It is in Germany's interest that Bonn, alongside Geneva and Vienna, becomes firmly established as an important European UN City."

The grant agreement foresees investments, for instance, in the former German Bundestag plenary building and at the "Platz der Vereinten Nationen" (UN square) in front of the UN Campus in Bonn. In addition, there are plans to co-finance the new extension building for the Bonn International School.

The UN Campus in Bonn has now become one of the major UN locations in Europe with around 1000 employees. The measures taken under this investment programme will further improve the quality of Bonn as a location for UN organisations and other international entities and thus strengthen Bonn's chances of success in attracting more institutions to the city. The common goal is to further develop Bonn as a centre for international cooperation.
