Multimedia platform Global Ideas receives Deutsche Umwelthilfe Environmental Media Prize

Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Environment Ministry, Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter, congratulated the editorial team of the Deutsche Welle multimedia platform Global Ideas on receiving the Environmental Media Prize of the Deutschen Umwelthilfe (DUH). In her speech at the presentation of the Environmental Media Prize, Schwarzelühr-Sutter commented "by profiling successful environmental projects, the Global Ideas platform helps motivate people all over the world to get involved in biological diversity conservation and climate action". The Federal Environment Ministry has been supporting Global Ideas since 2009 under the International Climate Initiative (IKI).

Global Ideas is a platform used for showcasing projects that can serve as models for others. Each week Deutsche Welle uploads new short films which give a vivid picture of how people and projects in developing countries and emerging economies are working hard to preserve the wealth of flora and fauna and to ensure that climate change does not progress any further. These are also the countries with the highest levels of biological diversity in the world and where a lot of people are directly and existentially dependant on ecosystem goods and services.

Global Ideas offers a wide range of multimedia elements in several different languages, which are distributed through various platforms and channels, and thus reaches a global audience, in particular young internet users. The focus of reporting is on innovative projects supported by the Federal Environment Ministry under the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
