Investigation of two widely used nanomaterials (TiO2, Ag) for ecotoxicological long-term effects - adaptation of the test guidelines

Silver and titanium dioxide

A project commissioned by the German Environment Agency (UBA) and funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) investigated nanoscale titanium dioxide and silver in long-term experiments. The results help close some of the gaps in our knowledge with regard to testing nanomaterials for ecotoxicological effects and to the applicability of standardised tests to nanomaterials. The results of this project are used in the work of the OECD Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials (WPMN) on the safety of nanomaterials and in the review of the applicability of the OECD test guidelines to nanomaterials.
