Law for the search and selection of a site for a repository for heat-generating radioactive waste The purpose of the site selection procedure is to identify a site in Germany for a repository for high-level radioactive waste generated domestically, using a science-based and transparent process. The site should guarantee the highest possible level of safety over a period of one million years. The site selection procedure should be concluded by 2031. Following the submission of the report from the Commission on the Storage of High-Level Radioactive Waste in mid-2016, the StandAG will be evaluated by the Bundestag on the basis of the Commission's recommendations.
