At the expert dialogue, regulations for placing building products on the market and the general test procedures for reviewing their impact on the environment and human health were examined and discussed. Topics covered also included approaches that consider the whole life cycle of building products and the current status of knowledge about risks for workers and the environment. Possibilities and specific issues related to recycling building materials containing nanomaterials were discussed, as were materials that might give rise to nanomaterials during demolition. Invited experts made a thorough accounting of the opportunities and risks tied to products that contain nanomaterials; this enabled in-depth discussion of known and new applications of nanomaterials in the construction sector. In addition, ongoing research was presented, focussing on forward-looking new developments in building materials.
