Federal Environment Ministry supports EU Biowaste Directive

Parlamentary State Secretary at the Federal Environment Ministry, Astrid Klug, called for a clear European framework to boost the recycling of biowaste. Recycling of used batteries to be improved

The Federal Cabinet decision to draw up a new batteries act is likely to ensure larger quantities of batteries containing pollutants to disappear from the market in the future. Following a proposal made by Federal Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel, binding targets are set for the first time for the collection of used batteries amounting to a share of 35% by 2012 and 45% by 2016. Revision of the Council Directive on Waste

The intensive revision of the Council Directive on Waste has been in progress for many years. On 17 June 2008 agreement was reached in the second reading of the European Parliament through a legislative resolution.
