Bundestag adopts Heat Act

On Friday, 6 June 2008, the parliamentary groups of the government coalition agreed on a new instrument to raise the share of renewable energies in heat supply to 14% by 2020. The purpose of the Act promoting renewable energies in the heat sector is, in particular with regard to climate protection, to achieve a sound management of fossil resources and lower dependency on energy imports. Furthermore, it aims to facilitate a sustainable development of energy supply and further development of technologies generating heat from renewable energy sources. The Act will enter into force on 1 January 2009.
