Construction Products and Indoor Air Quality
Emissions Reduction in the EU
Emissions from construction products are an important cause of indoor air pollution.
Consequently, since the promulgation of the "Construction Products Directive" (Council Directive 89/106/EEC), various efforts have been made in Europe to find practical solutions for the measurement, assessment and reduction of emissions from construction products.
Different approaches to evaluate construction products have become known over time. During recent years considerable practical experience has been gained with evaluation systems based on these approaches. The application of these systems in some member states in practice has noticeably reduced the emissions of many construction products available on the market nowadays.
Under the German EU presidency the Federal Ministry for the Environment intends to stimulate an EU-wide discussion process
about the different existing approaches and on possible ways forward for the EU. Therefore, a two-day conference
"Construction Products and Indoor Air Quality – Emissions reduction in the EU" will take place in the
Harnack House in Berlin, 4-5 June 2007.
It is the aim of the conference to provide a platform for a broad information exchange regarding the experience gained so far with the approaches that exist for the measurement, assessment and reduction of emissions from construction products into indoor air.
The
programme of the conference will guarantee
an excellent opportunity to gather representatives of European governmental and non-governmental bodies, manufacturers and
scientific institutions. High level participation from all stakeholder groups will foster fruitful discussions.
