Innovative Technology for the Environment - Pilot Projects by the Federal Environment Ministry

Innovative Technology for the Environment Foreword by Federal Environmental Minister Sigmar Gabriel:

Creating more growth and employment is a prime policy objective for the German Government. Environmental policy contributes substantially towards achieving this objective. In 2004, no less than 1.5 million people were employed in the environmental sector – clear proof that environmental policy is now geared to boosting innovation and industry competi - tiveness. Over the next few years, we plan to significantly improve the conditions for doing so. The Federal Environment Ministry’s Environmental Innovation Programme shows the way.

On the following pages, you will see how this works in practice. The eleven projects selected for inclusion cover the entire range of environmental sectors where innovation is taking place: Climate protection, sustainable mobility, recycling and inte grated environmental protection – the latter gaining increasing importance in recent years. Small and medium-sized businesses tend to benefit most from the Environ mental Innovation Programme, something the Government finds particularly encouraging.
