Federal Environment Ministry supports national park in Rwanda
The Federal Environment Ministry (BMU) is providing approximately 1.6 million euros from the International Climate Initiative for the protection of the Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda. In cooperation with Rwandan partners, the University of Koblenz-Landau will establish a protection zone around the park by 2012. [

New fellowship programme for climate protection
Federal Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel has welcomed the announcement by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation that it will grant International Climate Protection Fellowships to prospective leaders from newly industrialised and developing countries. Each year up to twenty fellows will be sponsored to come to Germany for a year. They will be based at German universities or other suitable institutions and will conduct projects in the field of climate and resource protection geared to the exchange of knowledge, methods and techniques. Brussels proposes to finance climate protection in developing countries
Federal Environment Minister Gabriel has welcomed the proposal by the EU Commission on the financing of climate protection measures in developing and newly industrialising countries. Time to Tap Climate Change-Combating Potential of the World’s Ecosystems
Investing in restoration and maintenance of the Earth’s multi-trillion dollar ecosystems - from forests and mangroves to wetlands and river basins - can have a key role in countering climate change and climate-proofing vulnerable economies. This is among the central findings of a new climate issues update by The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB), a project launched by Germany and the European Commission in response to a proposal by the G8+5 Environment Ministers (Potsdam, Germany 2007) to develop a global study on the economics of biodiversity loss.
