EU plant protection package is an enormous success for environmental protection
On 13 January 2009, the European Parliament adopted by a large majority the compromise on the EU plant protection package. Substances of particular concern will be banned from plant protection products in future. Federal Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel welcomed the approval: "The ban of substances of particular concern from plant protection products is a huge step forward," he said. [

European Chemicals Regulation REACH works
To date manufacturers and importers of chemicals have made extensive use of the opportunities provided by the new European chemicals regulation REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of CHemicals). The responsible European Chemicals Agency ECHA in Helsinki (Finland) received more than 2 million pre-registrations between 1 January and 1 December of this year. [

Good Start for European Chemicals Regulation
The chemicals regulation REACH, one of the most ambitious environmental projects in the history of the EU, started successfully. In the first month almost 16,000 substances were already pre-registered with the European Chemicals Agency in Helsinki. [
