At the first meeting of the Federal government/Länder round table on the EEG reform on 14 February, Federal Environment Minister Altmaier and Federal Economics Minister Rösler presented a joint proposal on curbing the costs of expanding renewable energies.
The two ministers agree that short-term adjustments to the EEG are necessary to curb the costs of expanding renewable energies. Additionally, they agree that the EEG needs to undergo a fundamental reform. Minister Altmaier and Minister Rösler propose a range of measures for the short-term adjustments.
Ad hoc round table on the EEG reform
At a meeting at the Federal Chancellery on 2 November last year, Chancellor Merkel and the heads of the Länder governments agreed to work together on a national expansion strategy for renewable energies. The 79th Conference of Environment Ministers reaffirmed this and, to this end, decided on a Federal government/Länder ad hoc round table at minister level. The goals of this round table are agreement between the Federal government and Länder on an expansion strategy for renewable energies and the development of key elements for a fundamental reform of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).
