Since the first CDM project was registered back in March 2005, over 3,000 CDM and more than 250 JI projects have been approved (as of May 2011). In Germany, which is involved in upwards of 190 CDM projects, the initiative to participate comes from private industry.
To illustrate the activities of German project participants and how the CDM and JI mechanisms work, the following highlights a selection of climate change projects with German involvement. The activities undertaken during the projects are described along with the carbon reduction targets and the current status as regards implementation. The examples have been selected to show how the CDM and JI work in practice and to give an insight into the range of possible project types.
A full list of projects with German involvement can be viewed on the website of the German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt), the organisation responsible for approving CDM/JI projects with German involvement.
