Lead Study 2008: Further development of the 'Strategy to increase the use of renewable energies' within the context of the current climate protection goals of Germany and Europe

Study commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU)

This Lead Study 2008 presents the "Lead Scenario 2008", a scenario showing how greenhouse gas emissions in Germany can be cut to about 20% of the 1990 baseline by the year 2050. This long-term target will need to be achieved by all industrialised nations if global greenhouse gas emissions are to be roughly halved by that time. This is essential if there is to be any prospect of limiting the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere to the value of approx. 450 ppm envisaged by the IPCC and thus preventing global warming from reaching more than 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
