Germany currently occupies a leading role internationally in virtually all renewable energy technologies.Germany’s high export share - over 80 % for wind energy, for example - reflects that. We want to continue to lead the field in the future and take advantage of the opportunities of a world market that is enjoying dynamic growth. Today, renewable energies already provide jobs for about 300,000 people in Germany.
Alongside market-introduction instruments, funding research and development is therefore one of the core elements of our renewable energy expansion policy. It has made a decisive contribution to our technological leadership.
This Annual Report on the Federal Environment Ministry’s research funding programme is an impressive testimony to this. It provides comprehensive information on how the available fund inghas been used. And it attempts to provide a glimpse into the fascinating world of technological developments.
