A chronology of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety

The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) puts sustainable development at the heart of its work. It was established in 1986. From 2013 to early 2018, the policy areas of building and urban design were added and the name was changed to Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB). Prior to 2013, other ministries were responsible for Germany's building policy. In line with its remit, the ministry changed its name back to the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) in April 2018.
