Resource Efficiency

Hendricks calls for global transformation in resource use

On the sidelines of the G7 environment ministers’ meeting in Japan, Federal Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks called for putting a stop to resource waste in order to maintain the two degree limit on global warming and fulfil the UN sustainable development goals. Latest scientific studies on resource conservation warn that global raw material consumption will at least double by 2050 if the current trend continues unchecked. Instead, more effective use of raw materials and other natural resources would have significant advantages for the economy and the environment. During its G7 presidency in 2015, the German government placed resource efficiency on the G7 summit agenda for the first time.undefinedmore

The BMUB has been supporting this development through the International Climate Initiative since 2012. Priorities include legal advice and training of staff from administration and industry. undefinedmore

Nuclear Safety

Responsible and safe nuclear phase-out

26 April marks the 30th anniversary of the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl. Against this background, Barbara Hendricks explained that Germany is a technical pioneer when it comes to decommissioning nuclear power plants. Ukraine and its neighbour Belarus are still suffering the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. Thus Hendricks called for the German nuclear phase-out to be completed responsibly and safely. undefinedmore
