European Resource Efficiency Platform

On 17 June the members of the European Resource Efficiency Platform are meeting in Brussels (Belgium) to exchange views and solutions for transition to a more resource-efficient economy. One of four EU Member State representatives on the platform, Federal Environment Minister Peter Altmaier is also attending this high-level meeting. more

World Water Week 2013

From September 1 to 6, Stockholm will be hosting the World Water Week. Organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute, the event has been the central annual platform for global water issues since 1991. This year's motto is "Water Cooperation - Building Partnerships", in line with 2013 having been declared the International Year of Water Cooperation by the UN.   more

Health / Chemical Safety

BMU and VCI continue joint work

The Federal Environment Ministry (BMU) and the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) continue their cooperation project on developing human biomonitoring. This is the result of a joint evaluation of the project's three-year pilot phase that was concluded in February 2013. The aim of the cooperation is to improve knowledge about chemical substances that enter human bodies.  more

International Environment Policy

The project "Climate Risk Adaptation and Insurance in the Caribbean", which is supported by the BMU International Climate Initiative, is developing an innovative insurance product which enables low-income sections of the population in the Caribbean to obtain insurance against weather-related disasters.  more

Chemical Safety

In Geneva, Switzerland, representatives from over 160 states came together to a joint conference of the Basel, Stockholm and Rotterdam Conventions. They took decisions to reduce the risk to humans and the environment posed by chemicals and hazardous wastes. more

From May 27 to 28, over 900 distinguished representatives from national and international industry, academia, society and government met in Berlin to debate strategies and action for the further market ramp-up of electric mobility. more
